How to Measure Roof Pitch
Method 1: From Inside Attic (Safest)
- Find a rafter in your attic
- Place a 12-inch level horizontally against the rafter
- Measure straight up from the end of the level to the rafter
- This vertical measurement is your rise
Method 2: From Roof Edge
- Place a level on the roof, make it perfectly level
- Measure 12 inches along the level from the roof
- Measure straight down from this point to the roof
- This vertical measurement is your rise
Safety Warning: Working on roofs is dangerous. The attic method is safest. For professional measurements, contact Top Guys Roofing.
